An update from the US Vintage Surf Auction...

Auction Preview Just like last year, "Pix of the Week" will be a photographic preview of some of the items appearing at auction. We will begin posting the "pix" next week, the week of December 14 and will add more a couple times a week through auction day..

What's at auction! We've been working very hard for nearly a year to make this the best vintage surf auction any of us have ever experienced.

There will be more than 125 vintage, antique and rare lots in the February 28, 2009 auction. One hundred percent (100%) of the lots are being auctioned at No Reserve!

Here's an idea of the lots being offered in the February 21, 2009 auction:

- More than two dozen wood surfboards from 1900 forward. Included are boards from Woody Brown, Bob Simmons and the finest early 1900s solid wood boards ever offered at auction.

- Original & large, never before seen photographs of 1940s surfing and surfboards at the famous Malibu Beach, California

- Greg Noll boards; nine different models, including an all original 1950s balsa and a flawless, perfect, all original mint Da Cat.

- Vintage surf art; including a an original large sized Rick Griffin with Murph the Surf. A 1940s painting of Duke Surfing by Hawaii artist Frank Oda / Hale Pua and original surf art for a popular magazine cover.

- The selection of more than a dozen rare Hawaiian big wave guns is outstanding this year. Included is a much prized 1965 Hobie - Brewer gun, Bing Pipeliner gun, an ultra rare 60s Gordie gun, a Parrish, a Barry Kanaiaupuni, Makaha, Surfboards Hawaii and others.

- Auction lots include a stellar line up of 1960s models, late 60s transition era boards and boards from the 70s. Here's a sample of a few of the 1960s models; Hobie - Phil Edwards, Bing - Lightweight, Con - Ugly, G & S - Hynson 1, Greek - Eliminator, Hobie - Gary Propper, Hansen - Competeter, Velzy - Bump and others. Labels from the 1970 / 80s include: Lightning Bolt, Hobie, Hansen, G&S, Surfboards Hawaii, Diffenderfer, Weber, Simon Anderson, Interisland and others.

- Boards with particular provinance would include Mark Richards' personal Lightning Bolt Hawaiian gun built by Reno Abillera, Tom Blake's personal board, a 1940s hotcurl authenticated by Woody Brown as having belonged to Dickie Cross, Pipeline Master Jeff Crawford's Pipeline board by Brewer and more!

- At this auction will be arguably the most significant selection of surfing memorabilia to ever hit the auction block. Here's a sample; 1930 trophy inscribed to Kahanamoku, Nat Young's 1969 trophy, Team jacket and shorts for Weber and a Hobie team jacket - both sets with provinance, Jim Blears World Contest winning Trophy, Bertleman's Duke trophy. There will also be about a dozen lots of 1960s decals, business cards, price lists, posters and patches (most will have 4 items or more in each lot). One lot will have 100+ vintage surf albums. At auction are rare surfing books, original 60s surfer beach wear, surfer figurines and statues and lots more.
