The Association of Professional Towsurfers has officially announced the start of the holding period for the Chile Tow-In Surfing Championship. The event will take place at Punta de Lobos, Pichilemu any time between now and July 15th, 2008.
Along with the main tow-in event, there will be a big wave surfing contest to be held at the same location during the same swell. In total, there will be $35,000 in prize money to be handed out.
Competitors for this world-class event will consist of the top eight rated teams from the 2007 APT season along with established big wave riders from Hawaii, Australia, Tahiti, Mexico, California, Brazil and Ireland.
Surfline will be assisting in selecting the biggest swell with the best conditions for this event. There will be an event notification light system set up on the APT website which will dictate the event status. Once the event is called on, all competitors will have 72-96 hours to make it to the event location.
