Event: Stop 6 of 10 on the 2008 ASP World Tour
Date: July 30 to August 10
The Rip Curl Pro Search has been the most exciting and highly anticipated contest on the Men’s ASP World Tour since its inception in 2005. After three brilliant years in Reunion, Mexico and Chile respectively, the legacy is set to continue when Rip Curl takes the World’s Top 45 ranked surfers to somewhere new and exotic for 2008.
“This year’s Rip Curl Pro Search could be one of those ‘best ever’ achievements we’re always striving for,” claims Andy Higgins, Rip Curl Event Manager. “The wave can be perfect, the place is amazing and the surfers are frothing, so if all the stars align and elements come together, it’s going to be one unbelievable spectacle.”
The location for this year’s Rip Curl Pro Search is still yet to be announced, with Rip Curl opting to publish “Somewhere…” as the location to keep the public guessing until July. The official contest waiting period for the 2008 Rip Curl Pro Search runs from July 30 to August 10.
The Rip Curl Pro Search received a first-of-its-kind ASP Floating License in 2005 to host an ASP World Tour event that 'has the option of relocating to a new A-Grade location every year with the agreement of Rip Curl, the ASP and ASP Top 45.' Mick Fanning (AUS) won the inaugural Rip Curl Pro Search at Saint Leu in Reunion in 2005, with Andy Irons (HAW) taking the 2006 Rip Curl Pro Search title in perfect barrels in Mexico and bagging the top spot again on the 2007 Rip Curl Pro Search in Chile.
