Aaron Astorga Wins First Ultimate Boarder Contest

The Ultimate Boarder was the first-ever challenge of its kind: a one-week competition to find the first athlete who can conquer the art of surfing, skateboarding and snowboarding.

The contest concluded this weekend after a full day of jaw-dropping skateboarding by 45 of the world’s most high-profile action sports athletes. Pro skater Chad Shetler took top honors for the day, but after a week of impressive results in snowboarding in Squaw Valley and surfing and skating in Ventura, the overall winner was Aaron Astorga who took the top honours as the best tri-athlete.

The newly crowned champion was rewarded with a $30,000 cheque plus a host of money-can’t-buy kit. Joining Astorga on the Ultimate Boarder podium was professional snowboarder and silver medalist Todd Richards and bronze medalist, professional skateboarding kiwi, Kristian Phillipp.

“It was an amazing event and everyone had a great time,” said Astorga. “The contest organizers did an unbelievable job of bringing all of the surfers, skaters and snowboarders together and I know a lot of us are already looking forward to next year’s contest.”

The top ten overall placing athletes earned automatic entries for next year’s Ultimate Boarder. Along with Astorga, Richards and Phillip; Chad Shetler, Shayne Pospisil, Tosh Townend, John Warren, Nathan Fletcher, Kurt Wastell and Clint Allan have all reserved spots in the second annual Ultimate Boarder. Registration will once again be open to the public this fall.
