The quarterly Rapanui Beach Detox recently took place with record numbers of people turning out to help clean up Grange Chine, one of the most polluted beaches on the South Coast of the UK.
Quite a task! The team managed to collect over 100 black sacks of beach debris; weighing in at just under half a ton of waste in only a couple of hours. The staff at the Marine Conservation Society actually commented that this was some kind of record for a non-crisis situation! This just goes to show that Grange Chine is one of the most neglected areas on the British coast.
The data is being collated to send off to the MCS while all the collected waste is being processed for recycling. Any that can’t be reused or recycled will be used as fuel for the Forest Road Energy from Waste plant.
A fantastic turn out of volunteers, a big thank you to all that came down. Keep your eyes and ears peeled for the next quarterly in August.
