When Kelly Slater won the Hurley Pro at Trestles last week, he also won his 50th professional contest ever, adding yet another record to his record number of records. There's also some kind of alien symmetry to this win because Slater actually won his first pro contest ever at the same place. But the thing about Slater is, such freak moments are weirdly ... normal.

What can you say about the greatest competitive surfer everthat hasn’t already been said? Some call him the greatest champion athlete of all time in any sport and while that might sound like a claim too far, there’s no doubt his record is virtually unmatched in any field.

In 1992, at 20 years old, Slater became the youngest surfer ever to be crowned World Champion on the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) world tour. In 2011, and at 39 years old, he was the oldest, too. In between those two bookends Slater has won no less than 11 World Championship titles, five of them consecutively (1994-1998). With much younger super-surfers like Jon Jon Florence and Gabriel Medina now on the scene, some are saying it’s becoming too hard for Kelly Slater to win another world championship – but no one could seriously write the 40-year-old off.

By way of showing off our fantastic new MPORA video player, our tech team has put together a series of videos that showcase the best of Kelly Slater from his incredible career. We recommend you sit back and enjoy the new player and of course, get yourself inspired by the man that surfers all over the world agree is indisputably the greatest competitive surfer ever.
