Hidden Lives with Tom Lowe

You might know Tom Robert Lowe from photos and films of him in recent years charging fierce Irish waters with his sidekick Ferg, skilfully crafted by master lensman Mickey Smith. You might recognise both his tube style, as well as the more moody, introspective style of the lads’ body of work. Celtic Noir, if you like.

But how did Lowey get from Cornish nobody to internationally recognised charger? How did Ireland go from being perceived as a windy, fickle surfing backwater to one of the premier heavy water destinations? What drives Lowey to tackle ever thicker, heavier Irish surf in the dark, frigid depths of Atlantic winter? Or perhaps more simply… Who is he?
