This week filmmaker David Parsa was proud to present the World Premiere Screening of his new documentary ‘Live: A Music and Surfing Experience’ at the Krikorian Cinema in San Clemente. The film features interviews and music from surfer/musician icons, including Jackson Browne and Jack Johnson, as well as commentary and footage of surfing greats Greg Noll, Kelly Slater, Gerry Lopez, Dane Reynolds, Jordy Smith and Mick Fanning, to name just a few.
The pros were out in full force to support the film. VIPs and pro surfers in attendance were: Greg Noll, David Nu’uhawa, Sunny Garcia, Todd Hannigan, Tom Curren, Mick Kelleher, Mary Osborne, Russell Smith, Tyler Smith, Drew Kampion, Jed Noll, Mike Gerard (Surfing America), Peter DiStefano (Porno for Pyros), Gordon Copley (Black Sabbath), among others.
Live music was performed at the OC Tavern after-party by Todd Hannigan & Tom Curren jamming together, Mick Kelleher, Brandon Bristow, and Machete Fight (featuring Russell Smith).
Proceeds from the event benefit Surfing America, the IOC-recognized non-profit governing body for U.S. surfing that annually selects the official USA Surf Team.
The film features many of the greatest surfers from all eras and guides viewers through the history of the harmonious nature between surf culture and the world of music. “LIVE” features songs by artists particularly influential to core surfers from past to present, like Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Jackson Browne, Makaha Sons Of Ni’ihau, T.S.O.L., Jack Johnson and Pennywise, among others.
